A Desperate Vitality
Visions of Pasolini
(Italy)
Photographies by Annette Schreyer
Text by Annette Schreyer
Screening
of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s movie "Accattone" in front of Castel S.Angelo
near the Tiber river shore where parts of the movie take place. Rome, 2005.
My homage to the great poet,
film maker and intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini, was sparked by the occasion
of the 30th anniversary of his death. This work is not meant to be a documentary,
rather it is a collection of “Pasolinian” atmospheric images. Following
in his foot-steps, I wandered the city of Rome, inspired by his works that
explore places of the lowest level of the working class, that evoke the
milieu of “his” ragazzi di vita: it were the streets of the borgate, the
slums, where he felt at home – he, the intellectual, who felt an almost
violent attraction to the vitality and physicality of the ordinary people.
