Pasolini conference
Convenor: Laurence Hooper (University
of Cambridge) & Emanuela Patti (University of Birmingham)
Thirty years ago, on 2nd
November 1975, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Italy's foremost postwar intellectual
was murdered in the outskirts of Rome. Pasolini was a protean figure, a
poet, filmmaker, novelist, journalist, playwright and even a painter whose
work never failed to challenge and subvert established genres, making its
appreciation a complex task. This bilingual conference seeks to commemorate
and celebrate Pasolini's legacy by bringing together scholars and practitioners
of different generations and nationalities to examine his oeuvre's changing
impact over the three decades since his death.
Conference delegates will
also be invited to attend a performance of Pasolini's play Orgy (Orgia),
which will be given its English Language Premiere at the Corpus Christi
College Playroom, 1st-5th November at 9.30 pm, in a new translation by
Laurence Hooper.
